Brooklyn Clothing X Simmons Bilt Tail Gunner Japanese Horsehide Black
We are very proud to announce our very first collaboration piece with the legendary leather jacket maker, Simmons Bilt. As one of the earliest pioneers in the leather jacket market since the early 1900s, this is a brand with some serious heritage history. Although the original Simmons Bilt operation ceased trading in the 1930s, extensive research has been done by the current team to reinvigorate the brand by reproducing and reimagining vintage leather outerwear with craftsmanship and quality that is sure to live up to the origins of the name. Each Simmons Bilt jacket is built entirely by one person from start to finish in their factory in Scotland, with some of the world's finest leathers.
Custom built for us here at Brooklyn Clothing, these modified Tail Gunner jackets are made from an outstanding heavyweight Japanese horsehide, available in either chocolate brown or black. This leather has a satisfying rigidity that will break in very nicely to a soft, supple hand, with tons of natural, variagated horsehide texture that will show through as the leather ages and softens up. The tanning process these hides undergo involves infusing them with waxes and oils, so they will darken or lighten with time and wear depending on the hide and the wear it sees, but this also means they don't require any treatment off of the rack.
The Tail Gunner is a super classic design featuring a slightly boxy body with a somewhat shorter length, as per the original military inspiration implied by the name, giving it enough room to layer well with in the fall and winter. It has a standard collar and a zip front with a size 8 Universal zipper, zip cuffs, gusseted shoulders and belted waist adjusters, and is fully lined throughout the body and pockets with a black cotton twill. Finished with handwarmer pockets, a single zip-closure exterior chest pocket, an interior snap closure gun pocket, and all antique brass hardware.
