8198 Amami Oshima Mud-Dyed Loopwheeled T-Shirt Brown

Woven on vintage loopwheel knitting machines, and then traditionally Amami Mud Dyed on Amami Oshima, these tees showcase the potential of Japan's expertise in artisan craftsmanship. Each t-shirt is individually garment dyed with a natural earth dye, giving it a completely unique look that will age with time.

Woven in Wakayama, these t-shirts are slowly knitted on vintage loopwheelers, which knit fabric at zero tension, using only the fabric's own weight with no pulling or twisting to create a unique cotton jersey with excellent softness and a slight textured hand. These fabrics are slowly and painstakingly produced, and cannot be recreated by modern knitting machines.

Amami Mud Dyeing is a traditional Japanese dyeing method, historically used for kimonos and other traditional garments. This technique has been passed down over the centuries on Amami Oshima, and combines dye from Indian Hawthorn (rhaphiolepis indica) trees with iron-rich mud to create a deep, rich earthy dye that is derived entirely from the island's natural landscape.
